The agency quadrupled its floor space to move into this smart new premises 10 years ago, and made the inspired decision to put a café and a lovingly curated gift shop at the front of the store.
Offering soup, sandwiches and homemade cakes and biscuits, the café now makes a significant contribution to Beaver Travel’s business, and brings a steady stream of potential new travel customers through the door.
Hosting a tourist information point for Visit Scotland, and giving a desk to the local amateur dramatics group to sell panto tickets at Christmas, also help Beaver gain new clients.
This elegant store in north east Scotland is staffed by a team of seven, who pride themselves on going the extra mile for their customers, which can include checking their customers onto flights, and sitting with them to fill in visa applications.
Beaver Travel has hosted a variety of themed evenings, from an Australia event with kangaroo kebabs to a Vietnam and Saigon event with Asian spring rolls. Advertising these events in local newspapers and on social media has helped the agency bring in new customers, too.
The agency is currently in the process of revamping its website, and has added a new section of blogs and photos and travel tips from every member of the team. The Beaver team travel on educational trips whenever they can, and file a written report to share their newfound product knowledge with their colleagues. But there’s almost no-one who is as well-travelled as Barry the Beaver: the agency’s cuddly mascot has his own passport and has visited more than 20 countries!
