The Lee Travel branch in Cork city centre is the largest of five branches across Cork County, and also acts as the company’s head office. Managing director Declan O’Connell has been sole proprietor of Lee Travel since 1978, and can claim an impressive 40 years in the travel industry.
The agency is located in a former pub, just off the main high street, and contains a partitioned area where customers can discuss cruise holidays in greater privacy, as well as a honeymoons and a corporate travel department upstairs.
The 13-strong team in this branch each have between 5 and 25 years’ experience, and a commitment to regular training and sharing knowledge between the team ensures that product knowledge is top-notch.
As the testimonials on the agency’s website demonstrate, customers love the attentive service they get from Lee Travel, which includes a handwritten card sent to every client even before they travel, to thank them for their business. An ‘Easy Payment’ facility allows customers to pay off their holiday in installments if they wish.
For the last 16 years, Lee Travel has organized an annual trip for around 60 seriously ill children from local hospitals to visit Disneyland Paris, with two members of staff escorting the group, and really going the extra mile to ensure this most special of holidays goes without a hitch.
An entrepreneurial spirit has seen Lee Travel charter trips to various sporting events such as 6 Nations rugby matches in France, and this summer it launched its own weekly flight from Cork to Menorca, which has proven incredibly popular.
The next few months will see Lee Travel launch a fresh new website which will allow customers to book entire holidays online – though O’Connell expects many customers will continue to prefer the face-to-face service on which Lee Travel has built its success.
