Not Just Travel agent Gilly Bachelor has partnered with experienced solo traveller Katrina Lowes to launch a new initiative aimed at helping women who want to travel alone.
The pair, who have known each other for more than 25 years since they worked together at BT, highlighted how women are often the “key” decision makers when travel planning.
Their No Stopping Her initiative is designed to support, educate and inspire women to take their first or next solo trip, and help them overcome any barriers they may face.
Interested female travellers can access a No Stopping Her community on Facebook. The first No Stopping Her webinar will take place on 28 January. All bookings will be made through Bachelor’s agency business, which has access to more than 300 suppliers.
In addition, solos can take advantage of an arrival contact service to establish their departure point at least 24 hours in advance, and a virtual dinner date for those experiencing solo dining for the first time.
“When Katrina approached me with her idea, I was excited," Bachelor said. "I had already noticed a gap in the support and inspiration available for solo female travellers. Together, we knew we could fill this space.”
Bachelor added she was aware of “many women” who had put off travel plans while they waited for companions whose schedules “never align” with their own, rather than travelling alone.
“I understand how intimidating that first solo trip can be,” said Bachelor. “Since hosting an event for solo travellers in 2019, I’ve seen the long journey some take to gather the courage to take their first solo trip. My mission is to support and inspire more women to take the leap.”
Lowes added: “Solo travel is transformative, and I want to support women in finding their own travel confidence.
“Women are often the key decision-makers in travel planning, yet solo female travellers can find themselves overlooked. Our aim is to change that. In my years as a global marketing leader, I’ve supported many colleagues and friends as they take their first solo trips."
