G Adventures and its non-profit arm Planeterra have launched five new community tourism projects focusing on empowering women.
Ahead of International Women’s Day (IWD) on Friday (8 March), the adventure specialist will lend its support to Nepal’s Kirtipur Community Homestay – which is run by indigenous women – as well as El Manglar restaurant in Guatemala, founded by the Cayo Quemado Women’s Committee to create new employment and training opportunities for the community.
The other three projects include the Ban Ou Community Tourism project, which offers travellers culinary experiences such as noodle-making classes as well as the Lady Tuk Tuk Driver Association in Cambodia and female-led artisan cooperative Mujeres Artesanas Zoologico Magico in Oaxaca.
According to the tour operator, the five new projects – which bring the total number of social enterprises supporting local women to 28 in 19 countries – will empower women to be financially independent while promoting their local culture and traditions.
The announcement comes off the heels of G Adventures and Planeterra announcing their plans to build 300 social enterprise initiatives into G Adventures trips by 2030.
