Members of TTG’s 2023 30 Under 30 cohort are throwing their support behind charity Reuben’s Retreat with fundraising events, including a 20-mile hike across the Peak District.
More than 15 participants including representatives from the 30 Under 30 Class of 2023 cohort and Reubens Retreat will be embarking on the Edale Skyline route, along ridges and hills around the Hope Valley in a one-day challenge on 27 April 2024 to hike 20 miles.
Reuben’s Retreat was formed in 2012 after 23-month old Reuben Graham passed away from an aggressive brain tumour while on a family holiday in Devon. His mummy Nicola founded the charity two days later to offer a sanctuary so families of children with medical complexities could have a holiday and create wonderful memories, but also to support families after the loss of a child.
Four of the TTG 30 Under 30 cohort recently visited The Lodge at Reuben’s Retreat, the charity’s sanctuary in Glossop, Derbyshire to gain a deeper understanding of its work, including the charity’s support of siblings, its Dads’ club and counselling sessions and activities.
Alongside the hike, the 30 Under 30 cohort are organising a charity raffle to raise further funds for Reuben’s Retreat, to be held at the Top 50 Travel Agencies 2024 by TTG ceremony at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse on 25 April.
Jack Atherton, sales manager, Virgin Voyages and one of the hikers said: “We want to try and raise as much money as we can for Reuben’s Retreat. Their mission is to support families who have sadly lost a child or are living with a child with medical complexities.
“When we visited, it was clear that their mission is to create a place to be able to relax, recharge, remember and rebuild. It’s a truly meaningful purpose and we’re delighted to be able to support this vital charity.”
