Westoe Travel boss Graeme Brett has hailed the efforts of the parents of Chloe Rutherford and her partner Liam Curry after they were nominated for a Pride of Britain award.
Westoe apprentice Chloe, 17, and budding sportsman Liam, 19, were among the 22 people killed in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing shortly after a performance by pop star Ariana Grande.
The youngsters’ families set up the Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust to honour their memories, which raises money to help young people achieve their ambitions in sport and performance.
More than 700 people have so far received grants from the trust.
Brett said the Pride of Britain nomination was well deserved. “The work the families have put in is fantastic," he told TTG. "Every minute of every day, they’re fundraising."
Brett revealed Chloe’s parents – Mark and Lisa – had mentioned the nomination during a recent visit to Westoe Travel in South Shields.
"We’ve definitely been talking about it in South Shields,” added Brett. “The families have helped more than 700 individuals – it’s actually more when you consider some of them are teams.”
In late May, fundraising events were held during the final week of the month in support of the trust.
Westoe Travel, which celebrated its 35th anniversary this year, sponsored the Team Chloe shirts at a recent fundraising football match, which attracted more than £3,000 in donations.
