Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group will launch its first riverboat in South America next year.
The as yet unnamed 12-cabin vessel will start operating in Peru in April 2025, and is the result of a collaboration between Abercrombie & Kent (A&K) and Ecoventura, its expedition yacht brand in the Galapagos.
It will feature 10 double cabins and two single cabins with each suite showcasing “sophisticated design, incorporating local materials and artistry” as well as floor-to-ceiling windows.
The vessel will have an outdoor swimming pool, a massage room, a gym, indoor and outdoor lounges and a bar area where guests can socialise.
The riverboat will operate three- to four-night itineraries on the Amazon, which include stop-offs in the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve.
Voyages can be combined to create a seven-night sailing, A&K said. All sailings will start and end in the Peruvian port town of Nauta, a short transfer from Iquitos. Bookings will open in June 2024.
Passengers can fish in the Samiria River or go on walks in the surrounding rainforest. A&K said there may be the option to visit local schools, engage with community members and learn about traditional ways of living via the A&K Philanthropy (AKP) programme.
A&K said: “[We are] committed to supporting sustainable development, education and conservation initiatives that uplift local communities and protect the Amazon’s invaluable cultural and natural treasures for generations to come.”
"The launch of this new riverboat marks a momentous chapter for Abercrombie & Kent," said Cristina Levis, Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group chief executive.
"This venture embodies our unwavering commitment to delivering experiences that are not only luxurious but also deeply enriching and sustainable.
"We are excited to introduce our guests to the untold stories and serene beauty of the Peruvian Amazon in a manner that honours and preserves the essence of this remarkable destination."
