Tom Kerss is to share his expertise on the natural light show during a select number of Hurtigruten’s Astronomy Voyages.
Hurtigruten will be welcoming the leading expert on the northern lights as part of its ongoing commitment to deliver an unprecedented experience in the Arctic.
Tom Kerss will join the expedition line on designated cruises in September 2024 and March 2025, offering travellers a bounty of insights and expertise on the natural light phenomenon.
The British astronomer is set to be an invaluable asset onboard, having studied the cosmos for more than 20 years and penned several bestselling books on the subject.
Kerss’ stargazing passion started young, with his first northern lights sighting in Scotland aged six sparking a lifelong fascination with the solar system.
Today he is widely recognised as the world’s first “chief aurora chaser” and regularly offers consultant services to major brands seeking authoritative space-focused expertise.
“The northern lights is one of nature’s most mesmerising spectacles,” said Kerss. “I am thrilled to partner with Hurtigruten to pioneer a truly unforgettable experience for their adventurous and knowledge-seeking guests.
“Together, we will not only witness the northern lights but also unravel the secrets and stories behind its beauty and nature, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.”
Kerss is one of several experts to have been selected for Hurtigruten’s dedicated Astronomy Cruises, all of which explore the Norwegian coastline on a 12-night-long round trip from the fjords’ gateway, Bergen. Each voyage also includes a visit to the famous Northern Lights Planetarium in Tromso; Trondheim, Norway’s technology capital; plus a number of optional excursions at an extra cost.
