LUX* opens in Zanzibar, with Attitude Hotels set to follow
Zanzibar has welcomed the first LUX* luxury resort in East Africa, while Attitude Hotels has revealed plans to renovate an existing property in the destination into a new eco-hotel.
The Lux Collective opened LUX* Marijani Zanzibar on 1 July, located on a private beach at Pwani Mchangani on the north-east coast, about an hour’s drive from Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. It offers 82 rooms and suites, a spa, pool and restaurants.
The Lux Collective signed a hotel management agreement for the property with ZK Venture Company in Zanzibar. Paul Jones, chief executive of The Lux Collective, said: “This marks the start of our meaningful partnership in the region of East Africa where the tourism potential is limitless. We are confident that the partnership will elevate our flagship luxury brand LUX* as we continue to expand our footprint globally.”
The Lux Collective currently manages 17 operating resorts and hotels in Mauritius, Maldives, Ile de la Reunion, China and Tanzania with a total of 12 hotels in its current development pipeline in Asia and the Middle East.
Meanwhile Attitude Hotels will open its first hotel outside of Mauritius, having entered into an agreement with Asilia Lodges and Camps Ltd to take over Matemwe Bungalows Zaswi in Zanzibar, which owns and operates Matemwe Lodge, Matemwe Retreat and Matemwe Beach House.
The property spans 20 acres of land and is located on the north-eastern tip of the island, opposite the diving and snorkelling reefs of the protected Mnemba Atoll. Attitude Hotels is planning to renovate the existing property into a 65-key hotel.
