AE Expeditions has launched an initiative where seafood is removed from the menu on the sixth day of every Sylvia Earle voyage in an effort to protect the world’s oceans.
The initiative has been rolled out on the purpose-built ship, which launched in January 2023. It runs alongside Sustainable Sea Day, which seeks to raise awareness of non-sustainable fish farming on select AE Expeditions itineraries.
The expedition line, meanwhile, has unveiled its Special Guests programme for the upcoming Antarctica 2023/24 season. The programme is designed to enhance the passenger experience, AE Expeditions said.
Greg Mortimer – the first Australian to reach the summits of Mount Everest, K2, Annapurna II and Chongtar Kangri in the Himalayas – will lead the 23-day Antarctica Complete voyage on his namesake ship in December 2023.
Digital and broadcast presenter Saunders Carmichael-Brown was part of the small media team on the Endurance Antarctic Expedition that found Sir Ernest Shackleton’s shipwreck in 2022.
AE Expeditions said Carmichael-Brown was fundamental in broadcasting the expedition journey and updates to viewers across the world. He will join the 14-day Deep Weddell following Nordenskjold sailing, departing 24 March 2024.
Climate activist Don Maruska, Australian photographer Peter Eastway, rewilding facilitator Gina Chick, author and artist Richard Morecroft, and underwater photographers Jett and Kathryn Britnell will also sail with the line in the season.
