Austria will toughen its Covid restrictions for UK travellers from Christmas Day, it has been confirmed.
From then, the UK will be classed as a variant region, with stiffer requirements due to the Omicron variant.
A spokesperson for the Austrian National Tourist Office said: “Due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, the United Kingdom will be classified as a virus variant region.
“Everyone travelling from the UK needs to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival even if fully vaccinated.”
However, there is an exception for those who have had a third jab: “People who are fully vaccinated and have received the booster can enter Austria with a negative PCR test,” the ANTO confirmed.
Despite the concession, the new rules will create issues for families, as most children aged 16-17 are just beginning to be given their booster dose, while the cost of another PCR test will need to be factored into the total holiday price.
