Brits are continuing to show a "huge appetite" for travel ahead of the October half-term despite increasing pressures on finances due to the cost-of-living crisis in the UK, according to the Advantage Travel Partnership.
The association reported a 5% uptick in sales for the school holiday period compared to pre-pandemic levels, with 94% of agents across the partnership seeing an increase in new customers.
Popular destinations this year include Lanzarote, Tenerife and Alicante, with many families opting for all inclusive packages. Advantage’s average booking values are on average 16% higher compared to 2019.
Julia Lo Bue-Said, chief executive of Advantage, said the group’s members have "seen a strong take up in bookings" as airports prepare for millions of customers to travel over the next week.
"With sales ahead by 5% compared to pre pandemic trading, Brits are demonstrating that they continue to have a huge appetite to travel, despite the dire economic backdrop," she added.
"Travel post Covid and Brexit remains complex, and we are finding that holidaymakers are more than ever looking for personal human interaction when making their travel arrangements.”
