Durham County Cricket Club will dedicate all funds raised at its upcoming T20 Blast fixture versus Lancashire Lightning to the Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust.
Spectators will be able to donate to the trust, set up in memory of the couple from South Shields, via text and through bucket collection points across Durham’s Seat Unique Riverside Stadium on Friday (10 June).
The fundraising effort coincides with last month’s fifth anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing, which claimed the lives of Westoe Travel apprentice Chloe Rutherford and her partner Liam Curry – a keen cricketer.
Durham previously has raised funds for the trust, which provides bursaries for young people in the north-east to help them reach their potential in sports and the arts. Chloe was a talented performer and Liam a skilled cricketer who played for Marsden Cricket Club in South Shields.
Durham cricket marketing director, David Jackson, said: “Many people will be aware of the tragic events that took place in Manchester, and we thought the game against Lancashire would be a fitting tribute to both Liam and Chloe and a chance to raise funds for their charity.
“We hope everyone can come down, support the charity and enjoy the cricket, a sport that they loved.”
The day will feature a performance from some of the young dancers supported by the trust.
