EasyJet has confirmed it will open another new base next summer, which will extend its presence across the UK and Europe to 30 airports.
Fresh from announcing plans to set up at Birmingham airport in spring 2024, easyJet will also station three aircraft at Alicante airport.
The airline will offer 1.6 million seats to and from Alicante next summer as a result, an increase of 16% year-on-year.
The base – easyJet’s fourth in Spain – will serve both flight-only and easyJet holidays customers, the airline said on Wednesday (24 May).
EasyJet will operate its new Alicante on a seasonal basis, as it does with Palma, Malaga and Faro, creating around 100 direct job opportunities and supporting more indirect roles.
It first started operating to and from Alicante in 1999, and is now the second largest international airline operating out of Alicante.
Javier Gandara, easyJet’s country manager for southern Europe, said the new base would boost easyJet’s presence in a "strategically important market" where it is targeting further growth.
"Alicante is a very attractive destination and we believe having a base [there] offers great potential to expand our operations in the country, as well as allowing us to improve connectivity to and from the region," said Gandara.
“With this base, we can bring the residents of Alicante closer to European cities of reference and, in turn, strengthen Alicante’s position on the international tourism map."
