InsideJapan Tours has hailed the Japanese government’s decision to end the country’s state of emergency as a "positive move" towards reopening international travel links.
Under the government enforced guidelines, residents had to refrain from non-essential travel and pubs and restaurants were unable to serve alcohol and had to adhere to an 8pm curfew.
The lifting of restrictions has allowed people to travel again but curbs on opening hours and alcohol will be kept in place for a month.
According to InsideJapan, the country has so far fully vaccinated around 60% of its population. The Japanese government has also reportedly announced the gradual easing of its international travel restrictions, which will see the quarantine requirement for inbound tourists reduce from 14 days to 10.
InsideJapan agent trade sales and marketing manager Matt Spiller said the company has "thousands" of people who have re-booked trips to Japan for 2022.
"After the recent relaxation of traffic lights and travel from the UK government, it would seem that it has helped with consumer confidence, and we have seen a gradual increase in enquiries from both agents and direct customers," he added.
"One thing we are certain of is that the demand to travel to Japan is there and we are confident that the travel doors to Japan will open again in early 2022."
