Eurostar has confirmed it will not continue its direct service from London to the Alps next winter.
The train, operated in partnership with Paris-based Travelski since 2021/22, ran from London St Pancras direct to Moutier and Bourg St Maurice, gateways to major Alpine resorts. Last winter it operated from mid-December until early April.
Eurostar said it would instead offer an option to change at Lille for a Eurostar continental train to Bourg Saint Maurice. This will call at Chambery, Albertville, Moutiers, Aime-La Plagne and Landry.
Eurostar said: “This service will run for a short season starting mid-December, leaving London Saturday daytime and returning Sunday daytime.” It said it would provide more detailed information soon.
Travelski confirmed it was working on a replacement train-inclusive package via Lille.
Travelski chief executive Guillaume de Marcillac said: “We continue to work with our friends at Eurostar and we are pleased that we will be once again offering a train inclusive packages from London to the French Alps.”
The withdrawal of the direct service is the latest cost-cutting measure from Eurostar, which was hit hard by the pandemic and Brexit. Its popular Disneyland Paris train was axed on 5 June, although Eurostar has said it will look to relaunch services next year.
In addition, Eurostar stations at Ashford and Ebbsfleet in Kent are closed due to tougher immigration procedures following Brexit.
Eurostar has said it must concentrate on core routes while it returns to profit and monitors developments on the EU Entry/Exit system.
