Greece expects to have received 5,000 port calls from cruise ships by the end of 2022, marking a 25% increase from 2019.
The country’s deputy tourism minister Sofia Zacharaki said 2022 has been “a very good year for Greece,”, and that she expected the upward trend to continue.
Speaking at a Celestyal Cruises event in London on Wednesday (5 October), Zacharaki said: “People have been eager to come back to Greece and cruise businesses have shown their confidence and trust in Greece.”
She said the country’s early adoption of Covid-related protocols, investment in port infrastructure and “very good cooperation” of the Ministry of Tourism and the maritime offices had been instrumental in boosting cruise business across the country.
