Greece will be the TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes Destination Partner for a second year as the country continues to focus on driving travel agents to sell more sustainable travel
Eleni Skarveli, director for the UK and Ireland at the Greek National Tourism Organization, reconfirmed Greece’s commitment to responsible tourism and the TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes programme today (16 April).
“This decision aligns with the promotion of the sustainablegreece.co.uk platform, which is designed to highlight the many sustainable initiatives across Greece and encourage British travellers to explore them,” she said.
“By taking on this role, Greece aims to inspire global initiatives that support more sustainable tourism models.”
As part of Greece’s annual partnership with TTG’s travel agent training programme, the destination will be offering a group of travel agents a responsible-tourism focused fam trip later this year.
It will also contribute to a series of training workshops alongside the initiative’s other partners: AE Expeditions (part of Aurora Expeditions), Iberostar, Intrepid and TTC Tour Brands (Trafalgar, Costsaver, Insight Vacations, Luxury Gold and Contiki).
“Encouraging responsible travel is vital for Greece due to its reliance on tourism as a significant economic driver,” said Skarveli, adding that “promoting sustainable practices not only preserves Greece’s natural and cultural treasures but also fosters long-term sustainable tourism development”.
“Travel agents play a pivotal role in shaping tourists’ behaviours, making their advocacy for responsible travel, and consequently, for Greek destinations welcoming sustainable initiatives, essential,” she said.
