Abta’s former regional liaison director, Doug Weston, has died at the age of 87.
Weston, who joined Abta in 1986 before moving into travel insurance in 1990, was well known to agents and tour operators through his attendance at the association’s regional meetings.
Working first for Accident & General and then for Derek Ketteridge and Associates, he continued to attend Abta regional meetings into the 2000s at a time when travel insurance was a vital contributor to agents’ profitability.
His career in travel started in the 1960s with Norwich-based regional carrier Air Anglia. He also worked for Anglia Holidays and Pickfords, and ran his own UK holidays agency in Norwich before joining Abta.
Weston’s funeral will be held at Cromer Crematorium, Norfolk, at midday on Saturday 11 January.
