Guests from across global markets are more likely to "make responsible choices" and travel more sustainably, according to a recent update from The Travel Corporation’s five-year sustainability report.
The finding comes from the group’s first sustainability impact report, detailing the progress against its 11 sustainability goals launched in September 2020.
The How We Tread Right review was introduced to ensure TTC’s 41 brands are advancing their shared ethos to "make travel matter".
It highlights the cumulative progress made as the company seeks to "shape a brighter future for the travel industry, the local people and communities it visits, the planet and wildlife".
Shannon Guihan, TTC’s chief sustainability officer, said the report will enable the group to "evaluate the progress we’re making as a company as well as individual brands", so it can track its "increasing achievements" and acknowledge the areas that need more work.
"Our sustainability strategy, How We Tread Right, was carefully designed to enable meaningful measurements with a clear focus on action," she added.
TTC recognises the growing expectation from guests across global markets who want to make responsible choices and travel more sustainably, including supporting local communities and reducing environmental impact. Travellers are also seeking a "meaningful holiday experience" with the guidance of an agent.
Progress towards TTC’s 11 sustainability goals, from September 2020 to December 2021, include developing net zero targets aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and sourcing 28% of its global electricity needs from renewable sources.
The group switched nine properties to 100% renewable electricity, reduced food waste by 39% at 12 Red Carnation Hotels and cut printed brochures by 88% from 2019.
It also introduced 554 Make Travel Matter Experiences across its itineraries, offered 65 trips to 110 developing regions and assessed more than 400 wildlife experiences to ensure 100% compliance with its Animal Welfare Policy.
