Iceland's Play to launch seasonal Cardiff service this winter
Harry KembleIcelandic low-cost carrier Play has launched a six-week run of flights from 10 October to 20 November 2024 between Cardiff and Keflavik.
Passengers will be able to fly direct to Iceland or choose to connect with Play’s four US destinations – New York Stewart, Boston, Baltimore/ Washington and Washington Dulles, plus Toronto, Canada.
Prices for the flights start from £59 per person, while connections to North America start at £179pp. Bookings can be made today (18 April).
Play will operate two flights per week on Mondays and Fridays for six weeks to coincide with school holidays in Wales from 28 October to 1 November.
However, flights will switch to Thursdays and Wednesdays during the first week of the programme and Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the last week to support fans travelling to the two Uefa Nations League matches between Iceland versus Wales.
Play chief executive Einar Orn Olafsson said: “Our new route from Cardiff to Iceland is the first direct flight between the two destinations.
"Not only does this mark a milestone for Play, but also opens up exciting possibilities for customers wanting to travel to the US and Canada at affordable prices.
“Our new Cardiff route is ideal for families seeking to explore all that Iceland has to offer during the school half-term, as well as enthusiastic football fans eager to watch Iceland versus Wales in the upcoming Nations League later this year.”
