The new year’s peace at a Wiltshire agency has been shattered after staff returned to find one of its windows had been smashed during the turn-of-year celebrations.
Howard Travel in Trowbridge revealed the damage in a post to Facebook on Thursday (2 January).
"Sad times," the agency wrote. "Following our new year break, we have returned to the office today [Thursday] to find someone has smashed our door window.
"If anyone has any information then please get in touch. We have had the door boarded up so kindly ask our customers to use our side door until we can get this damage repaired."
Branch manager Colin Curtis told TTG on Friday (3 January) the agency had now forked out £250 to replace the broken window.
“Someone’s had a smashing time," he said. "It certainly wasn’t what we wanted to come back to after the Christmas break – £250 is not a small amount of money."
Curtis revealed it was not the first time the agency, a one-time TTG Top 50 agency, had been targeted, adding other businesses in the town had been vandalised over new year.
"It has happened before, sadly," he continued. "People cannot handle their drink. We’re located on the main high street in Trowbridge – next to a church. I am sure it wasn’t the parishioners.
"Fortunately, whoever did it didn’t get into the branch and take anything.”
The agency has reported the incident to the police and asked anyone who saw anything, or who has any information, to get in touch.
Wiltshire Police confirmed it is investigating the incident that happened in Church Walk, Trowbridge.
A police spokesperson told TTG: "Unknown suspects smashed the door window and splashed alcohol over the front window between midnight and 1am on 1 January.
"We would like to speak with anyone who knows anything about this incident. They are asked to call 101 quoting crime reference number 54250000430.
