Israel is poised to end its month-long UK travel ban, its state tourism authority has confirmed.
The country’s health ministry said Israel’s red list would be scrapped at midnight on Thursday going into Friday (7 January).
Red list countries will be reassigned to Israel’s orange and green lists, depending on their Covid status.
The recommendation was tweeted by Israel’s ministry of health, although it stressed the move was yet subject to approval by the Israeli government and Knesset committee.
The move has been welcomed by Israel’s Government Tourist Office.
"Israel has announced the welcome news that it is set to open its skies for the first time in a month by cancelling its list of high-infection ’red’ countries, including the UK’ pending Israeli government approval," said the IGTO.
"Countries that were previously listed on the red list will be moved to Israel’s orange and green lists dependent on their status."
It comes after Israel earlier this week confirmed foreign visitors from orange and green countries would be allowed to visit Israel from Sunday (9 January).
Inbound travellers are required to present evidence of a negative pre-travel test for Covid-19 – a PCR test taken up to 72 hours prior to departure or antigen test taken up to 24 hours prior to departure – and submit to taking a PCR test upon landing.
Those who are fully vaccinated will be able to leave quarantine as soon as they receive the results, or after 24 hours. Unvaccinated arrivals will have to quarantine for a week and take a second test on the seventh day of their isolation.
