Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has warned agents and passengers its UK operations could be affected by the prolonged spell of freezing weather gripping the UK this week, with temperatures in some areas forecast to drop as low as -15C.
Late on Tuesday (16 January), the airline and operator said its operations team was working with the Met Office to ensure it has the latest information to inform its response should there be any disruption with a slew of weather warnings in place.
The Met Office has issued a warning for snow and ice covering northern areas of England – the north-east and the north-west – and another for much of central and northern Scotland, the Highlands and Scotland’s islands, plus the majority of Northern Ireland.
A separate warning for ice is in place for Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Scottish borders. Further warnings for snow and ice for the majority of Scotland, much of Northern Ireland, the north-west and western Wales have been issued for Thursday (18 January).
"We are aware of various weather warnings for the remainder of this week that may affect some of our UK operations," said Jet2. "Our operations team are continually working with the Met Office to ensure we have the latest and up-to-date information so we can react quickly should there be any disruption."
Jet2 is advising any passengers travelling this week to allow extra time to get to their departure airport and to carry any essentials in their hand luggage. The airline and operator added that while all of its flights are currently scheduled to depart as planned, adverse weather could result in longer pre-departure waits once passengers are boarded.
It has pledged to contact passengers by text and email with updates on any disruption and regularly update its dedicated travel information page on its website. In addition, Jet2 personnel and crew will be on standby at its UK bases.
