More ground handlers employed at Gatwick have called off strike action planned for the coming days and weeks after accepting a new pay deal.
The Unite union has confirmed its members working for ground handler ASC will no longer walk out between 28 July and 1 August and again between 4-8 August after accepting a double-digit pay rise.
Staff at Menzies, meanwhile, who were poised to strike over 4-8 August, have voted to accept a pay bump of between 13% and 17% in addition to enhanced annual leave and sick pay.
“These excellent results were achieved because Menzies and ASC workers at Gatwick are unionised and stood strong,” said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham.
The votes resolve three of four ongoing disputes involving ground handlers at Gatwick. Unite members working for GGS are being balloted on an improved pay deal which, if accepted, would resolve all four disputes ahead of the planned strike action.
“As these results demonstrate, workers looking to improve their wages and working lives should join Unite and get their colleagues to do the same,” added Unite regional officer Dominic Rothwell.
The announcement comes after DHL ground handlers contracted by easyJet at Gatwick earlier this week called off industrial action after accepted a 15% pay rise.
