MSC Cruises’ newest ship, MSC Seascape, will feature a first of its kind rollercoaster-at-sea experience called Robotron, blending all the thrills of a white knuckle ride with a personalised DJ experience.
Robotron places guests behind the mixer in the DJ booth, which is suspended in a gondola on a robotic arm that twists and turns in tempo with their mix. Rides are accompanied by colourful patterns, video projections and a light show to match.
The ride offers guests an unobstructed 360-degree view of the horizon as they dangle up to 53 metres over the edge of the deck, twisting, turning, spinning and flipping in time with the music.
Robotron can accommodate up to three guests at a time, with riders able to choose their thrill level.
Debuting in December, Seascape will feature two brand new VR experiences – a 360-degree VR flight simulator and a VR motorbiking experience – as well as the MSC Formula Racer F1-style simulator and the XD Cinema, an immersive 3D gaming experience.
Brandon Briggs, MSC senior vice-president onboard revenues, claimed Robotron would be the first-ever robotic amusement ride to appear on a cruise ship, one that would set a "new standard of fun" with its immersive, customised experience, unique to each rider.
"Our additional entertainment options with elements of virtual reality, special effects and simulators will ensure unforgettable experiences that leave guests in awe," he added.
Seascape will be launched in New York on 7 December before relocating to PortMiami where it will sail the Caribbean year-round offering two itineraries: Eastern Caribbean, calling at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve and Nassau in The Bahamas, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic; and Western Caribbean, calling at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Cozumel in Mexico, George Town in the Cayman Islands and Ocho Rios in Jamaica.
However, prior to its arrival in New York, Seascape will sail a 17-day grand inaugural voyage from Rome, taking in Barcelona, Valencia and Cadiz in the Med before heading out into the Atlantic calling in Funchal and Bermuda’s King’s Wharf.
