Consumer spending on holidays and travel looks set to defy the cost-of-living crisis, new research suggests.
Fewer than half of the respondents (46%) to a new poll by Advertising Week Europe said they would cut back on holidays and travel, despite nearly 40% revealing their energy bills had gone up by between 50% and 75%.
The Press Association reports respondents were more likely to look to save money by reducing their spending on eating out and takeaways (69%) and clothing (60%).
The poll of 2,000 people across the UK was conducted by Lucid, and found two-thirds of respondents had already started to adjust their lifestyle as a result of the cost-of-living squeeze.
However, the survey found the effect was more pronounced among older generations with more than 70% of 42 to 67-year-olds stating they had already adjusted their spending habits.
This fell to 69% among millennials aged 26 to 41 and to fewer than half (49%) among 18- to 25-year-olds.
