Lufthansa to restore more UK and Ireland services from 1 June
James ChappleLufthansa Group is set to resume services from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Dublin next month, and increase frequencies on flights departing Heathrow as it looks to rebuild its schedule.
From 1 June, the German airline group will put on 40 additional weekly connections from the UK and Ireland, which it says will "allow for onward connections to many summer and leisure destinations".
Lufthansa, Eurowings and Swiss will resume services to Frankfurt, Zurich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Cologne, increasing the group’s current schedule from 23 to 63 weekly departures.
The group hopes to reinstate schedules to 130 destinations worldwide by the end of June, more than half of its planned network before the coronavirus crisis struck.
Long-haul connections from Frankfurt include Toronto, Mexico City, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Tel Aviv, Riyadh, Bahrain, Johannesburg, Dubai and Mumbai, subject to travel restrictions. It is already operating connections to New York Newark, Chicago, Soo Paulo, Tokyo and Bangkok.
The resumption comes despite the Foreign Office continuing to advise British nationals against all non-essential travel worldwide.
