Barrhead Travel says the ever-resilient Spain and a resurgent Turkey look set to dominate its summer 2019 sales.
Following the first full trading week of the year, Barrhead reports sales surging 10% ahead of where they were this time last year.
Top-seller Majorca takes first place for the third year in a row, with Spain and Turkey shutting out the top five entirely.
Tenerife is second, Alicante third, Antalya fourth and Dalaman fifth, although there was some competition from Greece and Bulgaria.
“We are not surprised to find that, once again, Majorca is the top choice for our customers this year,” said Barrhead president Jacqueline Dobson.
“It’s a destination for everyone – beach, city and even soft adventure thanks to its interior landscapes. We have also noticed a resurgence in popularity for the beach resorts in Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria, which are offering great value for money against the pound.”
Orlando was Barrhead’s top-selling US destination, followed by New York, Las Vegas, Miami and San Francisco.
Further afield, its top-selling non-US long-haul destinations were Cancun, Dubai, Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Hong Kong.
Dobson said that while beach escapes and city breaks continued to prove popular, the “innovative and burgeoning” cruise market was booming.
“One-third of the holidays we sell are cruises and we expect this trend to continue to accelerate this year,” she said.
“In particular, Caribbean cruises have proven to be exceptionally popular so far this year, no doubt thanks to the fantastic pricing and flexible flight options from Scotland.”
