An agent has been forced to rebook a handful of clients after their hotels were requisitioned by the government to provide rooms for its newly-reimposed hotel quarantine regime.
Westoe Travel boss Graeme Brett said the government’s need to contract rooms for hotel quarantine after adding nearly a dozen countries to the UK’s red list had had a knock-on effect on domestic holidays and operators.
Brett said the move had left him and his team scrambling to find new hotels for clients. Westoe, which also operates domestic operator Rail Adventures, has had five bookings affected by the mandate, Brett revealed.
"We have rebooked the customers and issued new documents," he said. "We have also upgraded all affected customers into a better hotel.
"We are having to triple check all bookings to make sure the hotel is still operating and bookings are valid, which has created a substantial amount of additional work to make sure the customers can travel knowing everything is OK."
It comes less than a fortnight after Brett’s team was called into action to assist clients’ whose travel was disrupted by the onset of Storm Arwen, which resulted in a number of trains being cancelled in the north east of England.
