Tui UK & Ireland has been fined more than £8,000 for violating a series of Code of Conduct regulations.
In its most recent list of Code of Conduct decisions released at the end of last month, Abta said the company had been fined £500 and £600 for a breach of clause 5G, which states that members must pay arbitration awards within an allotted time.
Another fine of £4,000 was issued for a breach of clause 3l, with Tui failing to notify customers of significant building works before they departed for their holiday. A further two fines of £1,500 were also handed out for violations of clauses 1D and 3A.
“The fines were given because they had advertised an accommodation incorrectly and failed to inform the customer of the error in good time,” Abta said. A number of other companies were also reprimanded by Abta following the committee meeting on October 6.
These included The Advantage Travel Partnership, which was fined £500 for failing to respond to correspondence from Abta. Peacock Travel and Tours UK received a fine of £500 also for failing to respond to Abta’s correspondence on time.
It was also fined a further £400 “for not providing adequate liability insurance”. Just Sunshine was given a reprimand for failing to respond to Abta correspondence. Meanwhile, OTA Your Golf Travel was given a fine of £600 for breaching the same clause, and a further £700 fine for not paying an arbitration award “in the allocated time”, the association said.
