Saga will officially name sister ships Spirit of the Danube and Spirit of the Rhine at a ceremony in Arnhem on Saturday (19 March).
The two newest additions to the brand’s river cruise fleet will be named by godmother Dame Jenni Murray, who, in line with naval tradition, will smash a bottle on the ships’ hulls. The broadcaster will then be given a tour of the vessels.
Spirit of the Danube’s planned introduction to the Saga fleet was announced in February 2021 and has since been under construction at the Vahali shipyards in Serbia and the Netherlands.
Following the naming ceremony, it will embark on its inaugural cruise along the Dutch and Belgian waterways.
Meanwhile, Spirit of the Rhine embarked on its inaugural cruise of the Moselle Valley in September 2021. After the event, it will embark on a seven-night Keukenhof and Dutch Delights itinerary.
Each vessel has four passenger decks and 91 cabins, which can hold up to 182 guests and 50 crew.
Chief executive of Saga Cruises, Nigel Blanks, said it was "fantastic" to reach the milestone after a "challenging couple of years" for the industry.
"After the delays as a result of the pandemic, we’re delighted to formally name both ships," he added.
On her appointment, Dame Murray said: "I am delighted to be involved in the naming ceremony of Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube.
"As a keen cruiser myself it is an honour to be involved in this maritime tradition. I wish all who sail on these ships a wonderful time."
