With Spring Hotels’ agents support coordinator, Anna Marie Lacey, and TTG Media’s Charlotte Cullinan.
Charlotte: Hello and welcome to our In The Spotlight video with Spring Hotels, which has three fabulous properties in Tenerife. Anna Marie, let’s start by talking about your role, tell us about the support that you can offer agents.
Anna Marie: Okay well my role was the brainchild of Jo Robinson, who is the commercial director for Spring Hotels and has been with the company for more than 15 years. Agents are a massive percentage of the business, they bring in more than 30% of our actual clientele, so Jo wanted to have a support system in place that is literally for the agents, they can phone, they can email, it is something now that we’re able to answer hopefully any of their questions or queries they might have. We have the new SpringPro platform which is up and running now as well, where agents can make direct bookings. They can see prices and everything else, so really it was to create a support network for them.
Charlotte: Wonderful thank you and remind us of the names of your three properties and tell us a little bit about them.
Anna Marie: Right okay, the three three hotels are obviously the Arona Gran, which is in Los Cristianos, and then we have the Bitacora and the Vulcano in Playa de las Americas, which are ideal location-wise, they are all close to the beach, but those are the three hotels, each have their distinct personality, offering something different to clients.
Charlotte: Wonderful thank you, and you have your platform for agents called Friends of Spring, what do agents need to know about that?
Anna Marie: It’s a website full of information, it is like a one-stop tool shop for agents. It has information on absolutely everything all to do with the hotels. You’ll get questions continuously and a lot of them are the same type of question, so the idea behind this was that somebody can go in here, they can look into into the website, and I know it sounds a bit cheesy but this was actually a website designed by travel agents for travel agents, travel agents from all over the world were able to have a voice, they were asked questions it was done on them first of all, and it was put together based on that. So this was done as an information tool, it’s an open forum, so people could go in and have a check, there’s incredibly good images there as well of the hotels, some of the hotels do have 3D video which shows every kind of aspect of them.
Charlotte: And you also have the Up! upgrade package available.
Anna Marie: Oh absolutely, this is like the jewel in the crown of all the hotels, these are a space designed in each hotel to make people feel very, very special. All of them have the wow factor each Up! is literally situated on the rooftop of every hotel so it has the most incredible views, it’s open every day from about 10 till 6, people have gourmet free-flowing snacks and drinks all day, anything from hot drinks, they can also have anything like cocktails, they can go and serve themselves or they can go to the bar. Each one to has its own infinity pool, so you can be lying in the pool and literally looking out over the ocean and everything else over the rooftops. Each one has its own jacuzzi, and also the Up! is designed to in such a way that it’s away from everything else, it’s over 18, so it’s adult only. Up! also consists of the rooms as well, they always have the best rooms, the best view rooms, they will have different amenities as well, special amenities in the actual rooms that are for Up! guests. Obviously they pay a little bit more, but it’s definitely worth it.
Charlotte: Brilliant, lovely and finally let’s talk about your in-house sustainability initiative Spring Ozone.
Anna Marie: Right well they again have got very involved of this over the last couple of years, they got the TravelLife award as well, the gold certification for it. We are just a tiny little island in the middle of the ocean, and I think it’s our responsibility, everybody’s responsibility, Spring want to be part of that, they take the role very, very seriously.
They’ve introduced several different elements into the hotels already – they have now water fountains on every single level of every single hotel, so they’ve got rid of all the plastic – people can come, they can fill the bottles, if they don’t have bottles we can give them glass bottles at reception, and these are refillable and that was one of the first things that they introduced, so they now have them in all the hotels. Even something like the the toilets the cistern and the toilets, to flush the water they can also cut out out some of the water. Air conditioning, which people do need in the summer, they’ve just by lowering it by one degree, saved money and also saving the the ozone layer. And the air con will only work in the rooms once the doors are shut.
And they had a fantastic project that they started which is becoming very familiar to us here, which was Cory’s shearwater, which was a seabird that literally flew off because of the toxicity of the waters and everything else, so now what they do in all the hotels, they dim the lights when these birds are flying around to protect them. So again, it’s a small thing, everybody too, both for the clients and for all the staff, there’s instructions everywhere on how we can limit the use of water or different things and this again is an ongoing process, that they will continue to do.
Charlotte: Brilliant, wonderful thank you for sharing all of that information Anna Marie, that’s great and thank you for watching our In The Spotlight video with Spring Hotels.
