Stansted has been granted planning permission to extend its terminal building as part of growth ambitions to almost double passenger capacity.
The expansion will create a larger departure lounge, add extra shops, bars and restaurants, help offer “state-of-the-art” check-in desks and enhance baggage and security facilities.
Stansted announced its plans in July, with the expansion allowing the Essex airport to grow to 43 million annual passengers, compared with traffic of 26 million passengers in the year to 31 March 2023.
Gareth Powell, Stansted’s managing director, said: “Our aim is to be the airport of choice for even more passengers, and we are confident we can achieve that goal by further enhancing our facilities and attracting even more airlines to the airport to provide the best range of destinations.”
