A plot to smuggle "many thousands of pounds" worth of cannabis into the UK hidden in luggage has been uncovered at Stansted airport.
Around 12.5kg of the Class B drug was found by Border Force officers last week, after a passenger arriving at the Essex terminal on a flight from Malaga was stopped.
The investigation will now be passed on to the National Crime Agency.
Following the bust, Border Force assistant director at Stansted, Taylor Wilson said: "The estimated street value of the cannabis is still to be established, but it is safe to say that this seizure is worth many thousands of pounds."
A Canadian, Christopher Jones, has been charged with importing a Class B drug, the Herts & Essex Observer reports.
Forty-year-old Jones, who has no fixed UK address, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Thursday (October 6).
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on November 3.
