A new theme park and resort could be worth £50 billion to the UK economy, according to a Universal Destinations & Experiences (UDX).
UDX said building a new theme park and resort in the UK would boost growth and employment and generate billions in tax revenue, citing a new economic impact analysis it published on Wednesday (26 June)
The analysis states the project’s net contribution could run to around £35 billion during the construction period and first 20 years of operations, while the additional tax returns could amount to around £14 billion.
“A world-class theme park and resort from Universal has the potential to generate billions in economic benefit for the UK, by creating thousands of high-quality jobs and attracting millions of new visitors to the country,” said UDX new ventures president Page Thompson.
UDX said the project would create 20,000 construction jobs and a further 8,000 vacancies once the park comes into operation. A further 20,000 jobs, it said, would be created via the park’s supply chain and throughout the wider UK economy.
