Arch-rivals Virgin Atlantic and British Airways are to hold a charity football match on Friday evening (18 November) to raise money for families affected by the floods in Pakistan.
The game at Horsham Football Club in Sussex will be the first between staff from the two airlines, who have often been bitter rivals over the past 30 years. It has been organised by Virgin cabin crew member Kyle Reynolds along with David Rees from British Airways.
The two airlines are raising money for the UK for UNHCR’s Pakistan floods appeals and the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC). Entry to the match at 8pm is free for spectators with donations encouraged through the Virgin Atlantic and BA websites.
Estelle Hollingsworth, chief people officer at Virgin Atlantic, said: “Joining forces with our industry competitors at British Airways is a fantastic opportunity to put our rivalry aside and raise money.
“We are so grateful for every single contribution and are committed to using our business as a force for good.”
Carrie Harris, director of sustainability at British Airways, added: “The funds raised by British Airways’ team through this charity match are going to support the DEC’s Pakistan Flood Appeal so we’re delighted to see our colleagues taking part.”
