The number of women in leadership roles at Vueling has risen by almost 10%, according to new statistics from the low-cost carrier.
Figures published by the airline to mark this year’s International Women’s Day (8 March) show 44% of the carrier’s managers and directors are now women – up from 35% in 2019.
The percentage of women in Vueling’s steering committee has also grown to 40%, an increase when compared to pre-Covid levels when the presence of women in the group was at 25%.
Vueling said the figures are above both European and global averages for women in business, which stand at 33% and 32%.
“We are proud to represent a company that encourages women into leadership roles and has increased the percentage of female talent in senior management positions,” said Vueling’s chief transformation officer Heather Figallo. “The company’s vision of a diverse and inclusive workforce underpins our success.”
According to the data, even though women represent a significant proportion of the carrier’s airport staff (45%) and cabin crew (77%), they still only constitute 4.6% of pilots.
This is up from the 4.4% reported in 2021 and it remains in line with the industry average of 5%.
