Wizz Air has launched flights to the historic Finnish city of Turku – home of the Moomins.
The budget carrier’s three-times weekly service from Luton got under way on Tuesday (2 July).
Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with one-way fares from £24.99pp.
Situated on the banks of the river Aura, Turku is a gateway to the Finnish Archipelago, comprising 50,000 islands.
The launch expands Wizz’s UK network to 98 routes to 27 countries from 10 airports.
Owain Jones, Wizz managing director, said it was the airline’s ambition to help travellers explore Europe’s “undiscovered gems”.
“Our direct route to Finland’s oldest city means people looking to travel to Turku can do so in one short flight,” he said.
“The growing restaurant scene, riverside setting and medieval architecture are just a few reasons to visit Turku.”
Lotta Bock, international marketing manager at Visit Turku, added: “Turku is one of the most popular cities in Finland and with this new route we hope to open our doors to many more leisure and business visitors.
“Our magnificent city offers travellers a fun getaway to a vibrant, medieval European town which overflows with cultural events, culinary delights and festivals.”
