More than 50 tourism leaders from across the globe will get together in London later this year to debate the potential for artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to transform the travel industry.
WTM London’s Ministers’ Summit will see both the public and private sector leaders come together to discuss the impact of emerging AI technologies.
World Travel Market said the summit, which will be hosted in association with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNTourism) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), would be moderated by "a well-known BBC journalist”.
The WTTC has published several reports about AI and believes it can play a pivotal role in “delivering a tailored and enhanced experience for travellers now and in the future”.
WTM said tourism leaders at the summit will discuss how to prevent socio-economic disparities when it comes to accessing AI technology.
Ministers will also debate the best ways to bridge the digital divide, ensuring all stakeholders have access to the benefits of AI in tourism.
Juliette Losardo, WTM London exhibition director, said: “The Ministers’ Summit represents the biggest annual gathering of tourism ministers anywhere in the world. As such, it plays a vital role acting as a platform for debating key issues and finding solutions to shape the future of our industry.”
Losardo added: “There has already been much debate around AI and other emerging technologies and how best to harness their potential for positive change.
“Therefore, it is timely that the opportunities it affords our industry are discussed at the highest level as we continue to contribute to a positive future for the tourism sector.”
