Women in Travel CIC is marking International Women’s Day (8 March) with the introduction of several new categories at the annual International Women in Travel and Tourism Forum (IWTTF) Awards, which will be held in June.
The new categories highlight and celebrate female excellence in the travel technology sector, as well as the industry’s best mentees and mentors. There is also a new award for diversity, equity and inclusion professional of the year.
Women in Travel managing director Alessandra Alonso said she hoped the new categories would inspire more inclusivity in the industry.
“I am particularly excited that we have added a female in tech category, recognising the excellent work being done by women in travel tech, and best mentee award, which will celebrate those who have really embraced the opportunities and learnings that can occur through robust mentorship, one of Women in Travel CIC’s core pillars."
Launched last year to celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the travel sector, the IWTTF Awards will take place this year on 26 June at Expedia’s London offices.
Expedia vice-president of IT Stacy Nakayama said hosting the awards aligned with its aim to create and promote “a more inclusive and equitable workplace and industry for all”.
The reception will be followed the next day by the IWTTF Forum, a full-day event featuring panel sessions, keynote speeches and interactive activities centred around DEI in travel and tourism.
To kick-start the award campaign, Women in Travel CIC will host a webinar on 12 March where attendees will hear from last year’s winners on the impact their success has had on their teams and businesses.
