Disney Cruise Line plans to add four new vessels to its fleet between 2027 and 2031, which it says will allow its guests to cruise to “more parts of the world” with the iconic brand.
Following the fleet expansion, passengers will have 13 ships to choose from to experience DCL’s entertainment, dining and service.
The news comes just days after Disney Cruise Line’s soon-to-launch Disney Treasure was floated out for the first time in Germany. The new ships will follow the launches of Disney Treasure in 2024 and Disney Destiny in 2025.
Speaking at Disney’s biannual D23 event in California, Disney Experiences chair Josh D’Amaro also confirmed six themed “lands” and 14 new attractions at its parks.
The areas will be themed around Monsters, Inc., Cars, Indiana Jones, Encanto, Avatar, The Lion King and the classic Disney Villains.
Work on a new Monsters, Inc. rollercoaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is due to begin early next year. The coaster will be first-ever suspended ride at a Disney park.
Two new Cars attractions will revamp Frontierland at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, with construction also due to begin early next year.
Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort will feature an Indiana Jones adventure through an ancient Maya temple when it opens in 2027, as well as Disney’s first Encanto-themed attraction.
Elsewhere, the new Villains Land is already under construction at Walt Disney World Resort, while Disneyland Paris will gain an area themed on The Lion King.
D’Amaro said: “Today, we unveiled an extensive slate of new experiences that only Disney can deliver. Work is well under way on all of the new projects we announced, and fans will start to see them come to life in the near future.”
He added: “With so many great Disney stories to tell, we’re excited to bring an unprecedented number of new projects to life in the near future, whether it be in our theme parks, on our cruise ships or throughout partnership with [US software developer] Epic Games in the digital space.”
