Boeing is gearing up to deliver the last Jumbo Jet ever to have been built.
The final 747 – a 747-8 cargo aircraft – rolled off the production line in Seattle late last year.
It will be delivered to Atlas Air on Tuesday (31 January).
A ceremony is due to be held at the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington state, to mark the occasion, and is expected to be attended by thousands of current and former employees.
While the global fleet of 747s will continue to fly for several decades to come, the day marks the end of 54 years of production of an aircraft credited with democratising air travel.
Speaking in December, Boeing vice-president and general manager 747 and 767, Kim Smith, said the 747 "truly changed the world".
In total, some 1,574 Boeing 747s were built over more than 50 years.
Boeing will host a live webcast of the farewell ceremony from 1pm Pacific Standard Time on Tuesday (9pm GMT). Anyone wishing to tune in
