Bristol airport has put "surge teams" on standby to ensure additional staffing resource is on-hand at short-notice over the August bank holiday weekend.
More than 900,000 passengers are expected to travel through the West Country airport during August, with passenger numbers "rapidly approaching" pre-pandemic levels.
Around 32,000 people a day will fly in and out of the airport on Thursday 25 August and Friday 26 August, anticipated to be the two busiest days of the getaway. Top bank holiday weekend destinations from Bristol include Palma, Alicante and Dublin.
Bristol is advising passengers to prepare and plan ahead by checking in online and arriving a minimum of two hours before their scheduled departure time.
People travelling with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, Tui and easyJet are also advised they can check in their bags the night before their morning flights, with Bristol offering free parking in its short stay car park for anyone checking in bags in advance.
The airport has also urged passengers to be prepared for their airport journey by having their boarding card to hand, removing laptops, tablets and other large electrical devices from their bags before attempting to pass through security, removing liquids from their bags and placing them in transparent, resealable plastic bags, emptying their pockets thoroughly, and taking off jackets, coats and belts.
Graeme Gamble, Bristol airport chief operating officer, said: “We have already seen a strong increase in passenger numbers over the past few months and we are rapidly approaching pre-pandemic passenger levels. The strong demand for travel demonstrates the continued customer confidence in travelling abroad.
“While the airport has seen some challenges over the past few months, the Bristol airport team and business partners have been working hard to ensure customers have as smooth and easy a journey through our terminal as possible. This includes recruiting hundreds of people and we have held a series of jobs fairs.
"In addition, non-operational colleagues have been in the operation every week, working shifts to support our frontline teams. We’ve put in place surge teams so that additional resource can be deployed where it’s needed at short notice."
