British Airways and JetBlue have been granted permission to codeshare on US and European routes.
The US Department of Transportation gave the go-ahead to the airlines to put each other’s codes on services from Heathrow, JFK and Boston.
The BA code can now be put on 39 US domestic routes from JFK and 36 from Boston operated by JetBlue. In turn, JetBlue will put its B6 code on 17 European city routes operated by BA from its hub.
Routes that will now bear the BA code from New York and Boston include Chicago, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and San Diego.
The application was approved despite BA having a joint transatlantic venture with American Airlines.
The DoT granted the carriers permission for an “indefinite duration”.
