The union Unite has secured a 13.1% pay increase, as well as a lump sum of £1,000, for its 24,000 members working for British Airways, excluding pilots and management.
The union also said that, over the next 18 months, no member of staff will have their pay increase applied at a lower rate than what they were earning in 2020.
The agreement reverses BA’s controversial “fire and rehire” tactics employed during the pandemic, which saw the company release employees only to offer them the same position but with less favourable terms.
“The fact that Unite has [negotiated with BA and] reversed the fire and rehire cuts, while also securing a large increase in pay, underlines how the union’s relentless focus on the jobs, pay and conditions of members is delivering for workers financially,” said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham.
The announcement came days after BA parent company IAG posted a £1.1 billion profit in the first half of the year following strong leisure travel demand.
