British tourist drowns as Canary Islands hit by high winds

The 80-year-old man died in the sea at Playa Flamingo in the resort of Playa Blanca, according to the Daily Mirror.
Weather forecasters have put the Canary Islands on alert for rough seas until Saturday, with gusts of up to 70kph.
The victim died despite frantic rescue attempts by onlookers before emergency services arrived. His identity has not yet been made public.
