Club Med lifts lid on flagship Dominican Republic eco resort

Miches Playa Esmeralda is Club Med’s first Exclusive Collection 5 Trident resort in the Americas.

Bookings will open in January ahead of the resorts launch in December next year.

Club Med says the launch will make it the first hospitality brand to open a resort in the Miches region, around 90 minutes from Punta Cana.

The 93-acre resort will introduce a new concept to Club Med’s Exclusive Collection giving guests greater choice of stays.

It is broken down into four “boutique villages”, with village boasting its own unique environment, activities and accommodation.

These are: Archipelago - adult exclusive oceanfront “sanctuary”; Caribbean Paradise - tropical gardens and exotic flora with pools, nightly shows and activities; Emerald Jungle - “eco chic” retreat focusing on wellness; and Explorer Cove - activity-led area designed for families with children aged four months to 17 years.

Local sights and activities include the Laguna Lion nature reserve and waterfalls, whale watching hotspot Samana Bay, and Montana Redonda offering 360-degree panoramic views of the landscape.

Club Med’s eco mission with Miches Playa Esmeralda including conducting an in-depth environmental study in partnership with the local authorities to assess the likely impact of the resort, ensure a minimal footprint and preserve the natural beauty of the Miches region.

It has committed to a one-for-one tree re-planting programme while any infrastructure additions have undergone environmental, social and economic sustainability analysis.

The resort’s daily operations, once open, will perform within Green Globe certification for high levels of sustainability.

There will be no plastic straws on site as part of Club Med’s action on single-use plastics, while the resort will host educations sessions and create a community garden for guests so they can learn about gardening, recycling and other sustainability actions.
