Two CMV cruise passengers have been jailed for trying to smuggle £1 million of cocaine from the Caribbean.
Roger Clarke, 72, and wife Sue, 71, were each jailed for eight years in Lisbon after they arrived onboard Marco Polo and their cabin was raided.
The cocaine was found in the lining of four suitcases, but the couple claimed they had been duped by a friend who had given them the otherwise empty luggage in St Lucia, promising to pay them £800.
The pair, who were arrested in December, had a prior conviction for smuggling 240kg of cannabis resin into Norway.
The latest conviction follows a one-day trial when the court heard the pair had spent £18,000 on cruises despite a monthly net income of only £700.
