A new state of emergency in Ecuador has prompted an intervention by the Foreign Office, which has updated its advice for any travellers already in the country or preparing to travel there.
It follows a wave of unrest, mainly affected prisons in Ecuador’s Manabi and Los Rios provinces, as well as the city of Duran, and comes after the major of port city was shot dead at the weekend.
President Guillermo Lasso declared the 60-day new state of emergency earlier this week following clashes between inmates at some of the country’s prisons, which have left 18 dead and 100 prison guards held hostage.
According to the FCDO, those travelling to and from the country’s Guayaquil airport during 10pm to 5am curfew hours will need to show proof of a flight booking to enter.
